Pennsylvania Station - 7th to 8th Aves., 31st to 33rd Sts.; assessed at $19,500,000; 784 X 430 ft.; arcade, 46 X 216 ft., to waiting room, 277 X 108 ft.; two small waiting rooms, each 56 X 100 ft.; main concourse, 124 X 500 ft. extending under streets, with two stairways to each train platform; exit concourse, 60 X 1088 ft. with elevators to each platform; train shed 340 X 210 ft.; cabstand 20 ft. below street; baggage room under arcade, with 430-ft. platform for transfer wagons; 21,500 ft. train platforms; 30,000 cp. incandescant lights; 27,000 tons structural steel, 650 supporting columns. Twin tunnels under the Hudson River; train yard at Tenth Ave., 60 ft. below surface; 25 tracks in station; tunnels under 32nd and 33rd Sts. and East River to Long Island R.R. Cost of entire work over $100,000,000. Station opened Sept. 8, 1910.

New General Post Office - Eight Ave., 31st to 33rd Sts., $6,200,000 structure over the station tracks and car yards of Pennsylvania Railroad, 375 X 335 ft.; offices of the Postmaster and his chief assistants on the second floor front; executive offices of the Railway Mail Service, third floor front; headquarters Sea Post; supply department; letter mail handled on the first floor, second class in basement; direct connection by chutes and elevators from each floor with railway mail cars on tracks under the post office; basement occupied in the fall of 1910, entire building in 1914.

Rapid Transit - (From Top Left) (1) Hudson Tubes, two to Jersey City at cortland St., two to Hoboken at Christopher St., extension to Newark, lateral tunnel under Jersey City and Hoboke, subway under Sixth Ave. to 33rd St., to be extended to Grand Central Station. (2) Eighteenth St. Station and (4) Spring St. municipal subway, leased to Interboro Rapid Transit Co.; Atlantic Ave., Brooklyn, under East River, length of Manhattan, to Van Cortland Park, 242nd St., Bronx; branch from 96th St. and Browadway, under Central Park and Harlem to Bronx Park; 81.9 miles of tracks; cost, with equipment, $75,000,000. (3) Penn. R.R. tunnels, two under Hudson, four under East River. (5) Viaduct, carying subway across Manhattan Valley.
