Henry Hudson Parkway at 79th Street, New York City
THe new 6-lane Henry Hudson Parkway is one of the modern marvels of highway construction. Designed to provide rapid transit away from Manhattan's congested districts it connects with the West Side elevated highway at 72nd Street and runs north to connect with Saw Mill River Parkway in the upper part of the Bronx and continues on north almost to Poughkeepsie. There are a minimum of stops, traffic lights, or other impediments to fast travel it's entire length. This view shows the elaborate and scientifically designed cloverleaf at 79th Street and is typical of the methods used to keep traffic over the 6 lanes without stops. Looking north from 78th street this view shows the City Yacht Club Basin at the left with the Hudson River and New Jersey palisades in the background.
